I prepare this Christmas Tree Cake trifle as a dessert for holiday guests. Slices of soft vanilla Christmas Tree Cake and green vanilla pudding are layered with whipped topping in a clear serving dish for presentation to holiday guests. I enjoy serving a no-bake dessert that guests can see before eating.

Cold milk is needed to make instant pudding. Beat the pudding for 2 minutes and then chill. After chilling for 10 or more minutes, fold in one-third of the thawed Cool Whip. Add green food coloring and stir until the pudding mixture is evenly green.
I sliced the cake into 4 or 5 small pieces. Small cake pieces pack more easily into the pudding dish without disturbing the pudding. To assemble the dessert, place a cake slice in the bottom of each pudding dish and top with pudding. Use less whipped topping on the green layer in the bottom of the pudding dish. This layer can be seen through the glass of the pudding dish.
I recommend using a see-through trifle dish for this recipe so you can see the layers. The cake softens as the trifle sits. The pudding and whipped cream help hold the trifle together once it is served. You can sprinkle sprinkles on the trifle at the table for added holiday appeal without combining them with the other ingredients.
